Autism and Childhood Schizophrenia

The video gave me an incite of Children living with Schizophrenia.  There were two young girls, Jani  7 diagnosed with childhood Schizophrenia and Rebecca  9 diagnosed with paranoid Schizo.  As a baby Jani was always awake every 20 to 30 minutes. She cried a lot and was fascinated by things her parents could not see. In the video she was staring at the ceiling. Her parents could not imagine anything was wrong with her since they were first time parents. Around 3 years she definitely exhibited more behaviors like hallucinations and the hands flapping.  Even though she had a great deal of language but she was lacking socially.  She was obsessed with numbers, animals and days of the weeks.  She would says things like " Wednesday just hit me". she would give her imaginary friends name and the number kept growing as she got older.  During her birthday party she was flapping her hands uncontrollable while they were  singing happy birthday to her. But once she got in the pool it was hard to diagnose her because she was well behave in the pool and did not make any attempt to attack anyone. She seemed to have some symptoms of ASD ( hand flapping, repetitive, eye contact and social interaction). When she began to attack her brother it  became clear to me that she was suffering from something else.

In the other hands Rebecca's case was more severe then Jani. She was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. She believed a man was watching her every moves and he followed her around.  Rebecca stated that " you think something was going to happen to you".  She showed a phone that belonged to this man that was watching her. Rebecca got frustrated because people did not understand what she was going through especially having the voices in her head.  It got so bad Rebecca used a hair clip to slit her wrist trying to get away from the man.  She tried to run toward the free way hoping a car will hit and kill her.  At the end she stated " I want to kill everyone and have the whole world to myself".  She is a bright girls except she was not able to escape the voices.  I am afraid she would hit herself if she does not get help soon.
